This week, Rockstar’s CircoLoco Records released a brand-new EP, one that came out of nowhere without previous announcement or teaser!

Right off the heels of The Attention Deficit Track and subsequent EP by legendary British producer Skream, this time CircoLoco is reuniting with an OG name – DJ Tennis – alongside production partner Ashee and pan-African alternative R&B, hip-hop and Afrobeat star Lady Donli on vocals.

Tracklist is as follows, with an edited “radio-friendly” mix and a special acid dub.

  1. On My Own Now (Edit)
  2. On My Own Now (Extended)
  3. On My Own Now (Acid Dub)

As usual, I’ll be going through the new tracks below.

Spider Speaks – The “Reviews”

As mentioned, I’ll be once again dropping a few words about each track. My music tastes go from absolutely dark indie or punk rock to electronic music such as techno or trance, so I’d be hard pressed *not* to say something about this one. Although I haven’t been a fan of every single release (but most tracks!), CircoLoco Records has released a lot of promising tracks from a few big artists, and I personally can’t wait to see where the label is going in the future.

  • On My Own Now (original Edit and Extended mixes)
Beginning with the Extended mix, as that is the full track (edits are usually more radio friendly and exclude longer intro and outro parts that might be used by DJ’s for mixing), it starts out with a deep, very housey bassline along with a deep kick, which makes it very good for headphone listening, or in the club with a good sound system and sound stage.
Not long after, Lady Donli’s very fitting introductory vocals kick in alongside some extra effects, eventually evolving into a subtle but effective acid line (which I really like, long live the Roland TB-303) alongside the rest of the percussion.
It’s a highly progressive deeper House track, with very fitting vocals and an accompanying melody, introducing many new kinds of percussion and miscellaneous effects as it goes on. It becomes very catchy, very quickly, as the combination of all of the above factors, including the rest of the lyrics make you find yourself bopping your head at it.
At about the 3:40 minute mark, the lead pad in the melody changes key, which is common in a lot of classic House tracks (like some of those featured in SF-UR if you have played GTA San Andreas) and adds flavour to this already very progressive track.
It’s definitely one to bop to, and it must sound pretty great in the club for some calmer, more guarded dancing, alongside sounding great at home as well!

    —–
  • On My Own Now (Acid Dub)
The Acid Dub takes a heavier, tougher approach to things. Starting out with with a heavier kick and a variation of hi-hats, alongside a darker version parts of the vocal, chopped and reverbed at random points to add effect, evolving into the actual unfiltered vocals.
A more pronounced, higher energy bassline is introduced, along with higher energy percussion with snare rolls, crash cymbals, and much more. Right after the breakdown a new acid line is introduced, one that has a much higher pitch than the one from the original track, and one that is also much more friendly for higher energy club enjoyment. It’s a more “repetitive”, more techno-like track, that is most likely better at the club than at home. Regardless, one that still makes your head bop and adds to the previous original mix experience.

In short, it’s a pretty solid short EP, with the original mix (and its versions) taking the crown for me as a deeper, more minimal and more progressive House experience, and the Acid Dub being a tougher club version for higher energy moments that is sure to destroy some subwoofers as well. I’ve always had a thing for some genres of acid house, and the subtle line in the first track definitely satisfies that itch.

Although the first track in the previous EP with Skream didn’t resonate as much with me (loved “Floral” though, my favourite CLR release alongside Butch & Kemelion – Raindrops!) CircoLoco is showing they can go places with several genres of club music, and I can’t wait to see what they do next – they can both release very progressive deeper tracks and heavier techno club-hitters. This release is a very decent one, both tracks are solid and different enough that different kinds of people who like the genre and different levels of energy can enjoy it. One thing I do wish Rockstar had done is put the new Skream tracks into the new GTA Online: The Criminal Enterprises update, but oh well! Listening to “Floral” while sourcing Cargo crates in GTA Online, speeding though Los Santos would’ve been pretty cool.

Where can I find it?

You can find the brand-new release on all streaming channels, such as Beatport, Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube and more.

After releasing “CircoLoco Records & Nez Present CLR 002“, which had already featured in the GTA Online: The Contract update, and the release of the CircoLoco Records’ Monday Dreamin’ EP on vinyl, Circoloco Records comes out with a brand-new release, featuring big UK electronic music scene name Skream (which is personally great to see signed to the label!) and Glasgow-hailing Jackmaster, a “self-confessed super fan of Detroit techno”, who came together to release The Attention Deficit Track.

With the track also comes a cheeky pre-order on Beatport for The Attention Deficit EP, releasing on 15th July, which features two more tracks, one by Skream and another one by Skream and Jansons, whose tracklist can be seen below (first two are available today):

  1. Skream & Jackmaster – The Attention Deficit Track (Edit)
  2. Skream & Jackmaster – The Attention Deficit Track (Terrace Mix)
  3. Skream – Floral
  4. Skream & Jansons – Track 3

Spider Speaks – The “Reviews”

As per usual, I’ll be dropping a few words about each track, as the muncher of both electronic and non-electronic music that I am on my day-to-day. I’m not really a clubber, used to do it a bit more in my uni years, but bopping your head with club tracks at home has nothing wrong with it. I’m going to include preliminary reviews of the Beatport previews of the 2 tracks releasing on 15th July – the previews are only one minute long.

  • Skream & Jackmaster – The Attention Deficit Track
First off, seeing Skream on a label like CircoLoco was completely unexpected, given I knew him from other places, and even from a remix he made for Anjunadeep.
That said, this track is obviously a late-night techno/tech house club banger and not as much of a home listener, depending on your tastes. It starts out with a simple 909 kickdrum which then soars into a full-on 909 percussion pattern which is absolutely catchy to the ears – from open and closed hi-hats, to pitch-varying toms, claps, snares and so on.
The vocal loop is not really my cup of tea, but it seals the deal about it not being a track that is to be listened at home necessarily, as the entire feeling of the track would change in a club. I feel like it is a little too repetitive, but, it laced with snare rolls, claps, and other 909 pattern shenanigans, along with a few changes in progression makes it a bit more tolerable.
All-in-all the percussion is extremely good, but the vocal loop might be more jarring to listen to at home, depending on your tastes, or if you’re dancing to the heavens at a home-made club, of course. It’s a bopper, but more of a club bopper, if anything.

    —-
  • Skream – Floral
To me, this is where it gets extremely good. A very familiar breakbeat sound coming from Skream, once again featuring incredible 909 and 909-inspired percussion patterns and a background moody melody, along with a breakdown whose structure makes it reminiscent of old Trance tracks of the 2000’s, “exploding” right back into the breakbeat pattern after it.
In this case, the vocals themselves are ethereal and fit the mood and melody of the track perfectly, it’s my favourite of the bunch and I can see myself listening to it quite a lot. It’s reminiscent of the releases by Belfast’s Trance Wax on Anjunabeats (and even outside it), and I hope this makes it to GTA Online in one way or another.

    —-
  • Skream & Jansons – Track 3
This track introduces the influence of Jansons, another UK producer I honestly didn’t know about. Some familiar percussion comes back in this one, except it’s definitely more Disco influenced with its repeating effects, small melodies, disco-ey bouncy bassline and so on. It reminds you of something you’d listen to in a club a couple of decades ago, but modernised, and it’s pretty catchy and definitely more friendly for both club and home enjoyment. I’d say it’s my second favourite of the bunch, I think?

All-in-all, the new track and the associated EP (releasing later) shows how eclectic CircoLoco is willing to get even within the genres it’s focusing on.
The hip hop release with Nez was a little more unexpected, and less my cup of tea as, as eclectic as I might be with my music tastes myself, it’s just not the style of music I usually listen to. I look forward to seeing more known artists signed to the label, and more tracks like Floral, honestly, but that is me being biased towards breakbeat!
The EP isn’t bad, but is indeed a mix of more club-friendly tracks and a couple of home-friendly ones. The first one, unless you really like techno, might not be for you, especially due to the repeating vocal which definitely does seem to imply you’ll be uncontrollably dancing in a club of this sort – after all it is The Attention Deficit Track!

Where can I get it?

This only refers to today’s release of the first track, The Attention Deficit Track and not the entire EP just yet.

The day is here!
After a long period of silence, Rockstar and CircoLoco Records have finally announced that the Monday Dreamin’ Vinyl Box Set is releasing May 20, with pre-orders opening today on CircoLoco Ibiza’s shop “No Soul For Sale”!

Featuring the tracks that I have covered before from the released EP’s thus far, most of them featuring in GTA Online content updates, the 5 EP box set highlights “visionaries of every era of CircoLoco’s 20-year party history. It’s priced at €150, which is relatively common for big vinyl releases these days (also they’re FIVE dual-side vinyls) – it’s not very common listening media anymore in the streaming age, so most music labels do add a bit of a premium – after all it should be listened to on a premium setup as well, and it is Ibiza we’re talking about…

On top of this, CircoLoco Records have also announced an Apple Music exclusive mix (it looks like many electronic music labels seem to be choosing Apple Music recently for their mixes, with Anjuna having done the same recently) with NEZ, featured in the latest CircoLoco Records release and GTA Online: The Contract, that highlights “his musical roots blending hip-hop and classic Chicago House”. There are a couple ID’s (In Development/non-identified tracks) in there as well that could very well be future CircoLoco Records releases.

In the same vinyl box set announcement tweet, CircoLoco Records mentioned 2022 is “shaping up to be a big year (…) with a bunch of great stuff in store, including new music and more”, so I personally can’t wait to see what they’re going to do. Although my music tastes are quite eclectic, on the electronic side I am also a big fan of labels like the UK-based Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep, and I’ve spied a few mutual followers between their Twitter profiles, so getting some artists from that label would be pretty interesting personally!

With tracks originally featured in GTA Online’s “The Contract” DLC, the teased new CircoLoco Records release is out now on all streaming platforms, featuring Nez, ScHoolboy Q, Three 6 Mafia’s Gangsta Boo and Moodymann, who was also previously featured starting in the Los Santos Tuners content pack, and even the original LA Noire Soundtrack with a remix!

This EP deviates a little bit from the sound we’ve gotten used to in previous releases, with it being an EP that “bridges the worlds of hip-hop and house with NEZ’s distinctive sound.” The previous EP’s mostly focused on techno and pure house and deep house music, but this goes a little further into the genres.

As usual, I’ll be leaving some comments about each of the tracks in the new EP, but it is quite the deviation from their usual stuff, which, in a sense, is good to see, and a music label expanding their horizons is never a bad idea. These are subjective of course, but let’s get into it:

  • NEZ – You Wanna? | This track was featured in GTA Online: The Contract content pack, as a flash drive you could pick up on top of Dre’s Record A Studios. I’m not overly familiar with NEZ’s sound admittedly, but it was a track that I caught myself bopping to many times as it came up on my Media Player radio while I played through Security Contracts and GTA Online in general. It’s catchy, and a balanced mix of hip-hop and house music, with defined drums, a simple bassline and an okay vocal – probably my choice from the three.
  • NEZ & ScHoolboy Q – Let’s Get It | This one goes more into the territory of the hip-hop, quasi-Trap-like genre (inspired by hip-hop music patterns) with the simple drum patterns and the vocal. It’s not my cup of tea compared to previous CircoLoco releases, but ScHoolboy Q is a pretty big name to get on the label, so for people who like this genre and to bop to it at home or playing it loud in the car, this is for you. The duration of the track reflects its (natural) simplicity as well, at 2:46.
  • NEZ, Moodymann & Gangsta Boo – Freaks | The Moodymann sound is extremely obvious in this one, and it makes it a little bit of a more complex track than the previous couple. A lot of hi-hats and claps, a heavy kick and bassline and a more varied overall vocal. Again not my personal cup of tea, but an even better track to bop your head to. By the middle, the mood (ha) of the track kind of dramatically changes, returning back to its intro roots after that’s done – but if you like a nice hip-hop line, this is for you. It would probably be my second choice in this EP.

It’s a very different release from the previous ones, and I’m personally a little bit crazier over the pure electronic, techno and deep house sounds we heard in previous EP’s, but as mentioned before, it’s good to see CircoLoco expanding a little. These had been teased before in GTA Online, so it was only a matter of time until they released.

The promised vinyl release of Monday Dreamin’ is still nowhere to be seen, but I can assume a change of plans or even manufacturing complexities caused by the pandemic may have put a stop to that.

Now this is a Q&A that needs no introduction, but we’re going to do one anyway!

A short while ago, we popped over a few questions to Rockstar Games to see if we could get a more up-close and personal insight into GTA’s music, the new Circoloco Records and the Los Santos Tuners update. To our delight, Rockstar have kindly provided us with a little Q&A session, which they’re also happy for us to share with the rest of the community!

Suffice to say, we’re very grateful to Rockstar for being so accommodating with our questions, especially for letting us share them with you lot! To Rockstar: thank you for your support, as always.

But enough of us, feast your eyes on their answers below, and be sure to read on to the end for a little teaser of what’s in store for GTA Online in 2021, and beyond…

uNi, Kirsty & Spider-Vice

GTANet: Congrats on CircoLoco Records! Music has always been a big part of the GTA series, how do you go about picking something new to introduce into the GTA world that will stick around forever?

Rockstar Games: It’s very similar to the process we used when we first created the game – all starts with having a sense of what is right for the location of the game and the vibe of the overall world. For Grand Theft Auto V, that meant bringing that sense of contemporary LA and the music that was happening there at the time. Over time as GTA Online has grown, we’ve taken the opportunity to reflect changes in the music scene and to highlight different aspects of the city’s music scene that we loved and thought that people should hear. A good example is something like KULT FM with Julian Casablancas, which is based on a low-power radio station in Venice Beach that plays a really eclectic mix of tunes. We felt that was a great balance to the stations we had already added, and Julian was the perfect host. We hope by picking a great mix of known tunes and hidden gems, people will be able to tune in and discover new things for years.

GTANet: GTA Online must provide an endless stream of data, but regarding music, which radio stations or songs that turned out to be a hit were the biggest surprise for the team?

Rockstar Games: We’ve always been blown away by how much people love Non-Stop Pop. But we’re not just trying to fill the stations with music people know and love, we really love to turn people on to new music, and that’s really the driving force between the range of radio stations and artists we put into every game.

GTANet: Regarding Los Santos Tuners specifically, what quality of life changes, or fan requests, did you add?

Rockstar Games: As hopefully you’ve already discovered, Los Santos Tuners added quite a few requested features and updates, including the ability to “Take All” Snacks in owned Properties. Players can also choose to show/hide certain radio stations in the Radio Wheel (this is done via the Interaction Menu) to suit their musical tastes. Adding a new category of Wheels was also a popular request which made sense for us to include this time around, as well as the option to Test Drive select vehicles in the LS Car Meet before purchasing.

The feedback has been incredible with a record-breaking opening week – we couldn’t be more excited and grateful to the community for coming together to play and we’re really glad everyone is enjoying the update!

GTANet: The community challenge you have done for the heists was really interesting and engaging, would you consider doing more in the future? (Not just tied with heists)

Rockstar Games: Absolutely! We loved seeing the community come together to heist over GTA$1 Trillion during The Heist Challenge – more than 10x the original target. We’ve got a few things planned this year which we think will be really fun for the community to take part in, as well as some new activities for Halloween, and some exciting new updates beyond that.

We also wanted to take a moment to thank the entire community for continuing to support GTA Online. We’ve been humbled by the incredible response to Los Santos Tuners. We’re always checking out Crews running their own meets and generally immersing themselves in car culture, and bringing that back to GTA Online is something we’ve wanted to do for a while. With the number of players requesting that we bring a car-focused update to GTA Online, the time felt right to celebrate that side of the game. It’s always been important to us that players can get in touch and let us know the kinds of things they’d like to see in the game – we strongly encourage any and all feedback to make its way to us via the GTA Online Feedback Portal at https://www.rockstargames.com/GTAOnline/feedback

Discuss with the rest of the community on GTAForums and Twitter!

Every Friday, Rockstar releases their next series of tracks from their CircoLoco Records Monday Dreamin’ EP collection, and today is no exception!

Today’s Monday Dreamin’ Black features Lost Souls of Saturn & TOKiMONSTA, Adam Beyer, Tale Of Us (who we have already seen within GTA Online as well), Bedouin and Damian Lazarus.

As always, you can listen to the new EP on streaming platforms such as Beatport, BandCamp and Apple Music. You can also listen to it on Spotify via this LinkTree and on SoundCloud.

The last release of the Monday Dreamin’ series is, as the cover itself might imply, a little bit more progressive and dark than the previous, including some known artists in the scene such as Bedouin, Adam Beyer and Tale of Us who are more known for their long-winded progressive sound that evolves from start to finish of each track, and is not to everyone’s tastes but can be big hitters in clubs.

There’s less of the choir vocals and melodic long Trance-like synthwork in this one, and a lot more of those beats and basslines to make your head and body bop for a few minutes at a time at the club… or in Cayo Perico. Let’s get to the meat of it.

Spider’s Reviews

As an avid lover of music, and having extremely eclectic music tastes, I thought I’d leave a review of the new tracks in the EP. Music is something I listen to all the time, so it would be kinda odd covering Rockstar’s new partnership with CircoLoco without some brief comments!

  • Lost Souls of Saturn, TOKiMONSTA – Revision Of The Past | The first track in the EP is one that could very well be the intro to a nightclub mix, with subtle synthesiser sounds and effects coming in that mind remind you of Lounge music a little bit. Shortly after, a very interesting (lyrics-wise as well… even seems to be a talk!) vocal comes in, along with a very deep bassline and some more synth-work. The EP starts out well with an extremely deep one here, without relying on heavy kickdrum sounds and instead keeping those in the background, highlighting the sound effect samples, drum loops and synthesiser work. There’s even some 303 work in there I’m hearing, that I was not expecting. Starting out pretty good! I had heard of TOKiMONSTA but never really listened, so I’m assuming this was a good intro? Ha! I’d bop my head in the club to this, for sure.
  • Adam Beyer – Break It Up | The intro starts with a typical drum machine loop (what seems to be from a Roland 808 or 909?), then becoming a shuffle of closed-hats and some synthwork coming in. It’s in typical Adam Beyer style and it’s a highly progressive track that evolves over time, as more synths are added, and then removed as the track ends. Not one of my favourite styles, but it’s definitely something that fits the club.
  • Tale of Us – Nova Two | Nova Two is a follow-up to Tale of Us’ original “Nova, containing the same subtle and progressive mood as the previous one. This is a proper follow-up that is similar enough to the first one that you can call it a proper follow-up. It’s in pure Tale of Us style and relies on synth stabs and nice melodic pads at around the 1 :10 minute mark (and then the 3 minute mark), for a good pause before the kick kicks in (ha!) and you start dancing again. If you have heard Tale of Us’s work before, both in GTA Online and outside it, you’ll definitely recognise Nova Two. Highly progressive track, a little more repetitive towards the end as I think the intro section has a bit more nuance, but a little bit more within my personal tastes than Break It Up. *bops head*
  • Bedouin – Up In Flames | I had heard about Bedouin before, but hadn’t really explored their tracks too much before. It starts with a strong kick and evolving into a nice plucky melody and some hi-hats coming into the mix by the 1:30 min mark. It’s definitely one of the more moody and melodic tracks in the EP, as it includes some vocals and deep melody by the middle instead of it just being a progressive banger. A manipulated saxophone/trumpet comes in at around the 4:30 mark that just helps the whole mood of the track. It’s typically progressive, but also a lot moodier. Not bad!
  • Damian Lazarus – The Future feat. Robert Owens | This one starts out very nice and moody with a straight up pad synth, setting the mood for what could also even be the intro of a nightclub mix. A vocal immediately accompanies the intro, provided by (I assume) Robert Owens. One might even think it’s a very intimate track at first! Soon after, a very deep subtle bassline comes in, for the track to start climaxing by the 1:48 part with a lot of typical sounds that may remind you of stuff you have heard in SF-UR in GTA San Andreas*! I think this one is my favourite of the whole EP due to how moody and reminiscent of the 90’s stuff it is – it’s still heavily progressive but has a lot more nuance to it due to the synth pads and drum loops in it, along with the vocals that fit perfectly in this kind of track. A lot is done in this track over its seven minutes, so it’s a recommended full listen.
UPDATE 26th June: It is no wonder it may remind you of something you’ve heard on SF-UR in San Andreas, as indeed Robert Owens has been featured in SF-UR with “I’ll Be Your Friend”, one of its best tracks!

Extra Thoughts And Future Speculation

This was the last release of the separate Monday Dreamin’ EP’s, and although it’s admittedly not my favourite, that being the Violet EP instead, there is a lot of good stuff in here and plenty of potential for CircoLoco Records to tap into artists that have partnered with the CircoLoco festival/night club before and put them straight into the label, because there’s definitely some more big names that are a possibility to see in the label in the future. There’s some overlap with labels like Anjunadeep and others, so those are also some labels I’d like to see lend artists over to CircoLoco Records, simply out of previous association! (Adam Port from Keinemusik has remixed Cubicolor – No Dancers, which is even featured in the Cayo Perico Heist!)

My favourite tracks as a whole for the series I’d say are – subjectively of course:

  • Butch – Raindrops (feat. Kemelion)
  • Rampa – The Church
  • DJ Tennis – Atlanta
  • Damian Lazarus – The Future feat. Robert Owens

This type of music isn’t for everyone, as it’s highly (and slowly) progressive, but some of the tracks are more focused on melody, and that might attract even more people than those who like bopping their heads and moving their bodies to highly progressive techno sounds. The thing is, if you go to CircoLoco Ibiza’s (the festival) own SoundCloud, you may find that there’s a lot more in there than just what you may find to be “repetitive” techno, and I think it’s an awesome sign of things to come. There’s a bunch of very high beats per minute banger sets in there, (one of many examples) which could mean CircoLoco Records themselves could get a lot faster too one day!

I think there might be good things to come for CircoLoco Records in the future and once again I’m not going to be surprised if we hear all of these tracks in The Music Locker once a new GTA Online content pack or even Expanded & Enhanced comes out. Lots of opportunity here to market new tracks within the games as well in future content packs, and to do lots of cross promotion between the label and future and current modern era Rockstar games. Rockstar have always been interested in the music side of things, unlike a lot of social media thinks, so expect to see a lot more of this being intertwined into the games – and I’ll appreciate that as a music lover honestly! Bring more of the tunes, Rockstar!

The full version of Monday Dreamin’ including ALL of the tracks from the individual EP’s can now be preordered on Beatport and Bandcamp, so be sure to check that out if you want to see the full listing of tracks.

Every Friday, Rockstar releases their next series of tracks from their CircoLoco Records Monday Dreamin’ EP collection, and today is no exception!

This time, Monday Dreamin’ Violet is featuring artists such as Butch & Kemelion, Carl Craig, Margaret Dygas, Red Axes & Luciano, with the last one having a track lasting a whopping 12:34 minutes.

You can listen to the new EP on streaming platforms such as Beatport, BandCamp and Apple Music. It’s also available on Spotify with separate artist entries and on SoundCloud this time!

This one is even more varied than the last in terms of moods and genres, and that is a great thing, especially for one track in specific. Let’s get to them comments.

  • Butch – Raindrops feat. Kemelion | I will go in with a bang and directly say this is my favourite track of the whole EP. I have grown up listening to extremely melodic music, thanks to a close relative, and this absolutely satiates that musical need. Straight from the first minute, a very melodic sweeping pad that lasts almost the whole track is accompanied by a relaxing breakbeat percussion loop, plus Kemelion’s (?) great vocals in the foreground. This is by far my favourite track in the EP and perhaps in the Circoloco releases thus far. Anyone that is a fan of classic chilled or melodic Trance music will recognise the type of melody used here. Extremely chilled track!
  • Carl Craig – Forever Free | On the EP’s second track, we have a distinct change of mood. We instead have very 80’s sounding synths growling in the foreground along with a simple yet catchy bassline. This one is very progressive, as the genre usually is, so around the 5th minute we get some extra percussion into the mix making it a little more high energy. More of a club downtime track, I’m loving these synths myself.
  • Margaret Dygas – Wishing Well | A much more minimal track, with much more repetitive percussion and bassline, it’s definitely a minimal experimental/industrial track, also great for downtime in a club, to grab a drink or something. Personally not a huge fan of this genre, but it is something that Circoloco have played over the years occasionally.
  • Red Axes – Calib | Leaning once again more into the tech/techno side, we get a minimal bassline along with percussion, but plenty of effects to go along with it, along with a pretty catchy melody around the middle. Bopping my head at this one especially after the 3 minute mark. Plenty of snares, hi-hats and everything. I prefer the heavily melodic stuff as I mentioned before, but this is definitely a good club track I could see playing in the Music Locker in GTA Online to the enjoyment of many Los Santos (or Cayo Perico!) criminals 😉
  • Luciano – Mantra For Lizzie | If the previous tracks were extremely progressive in nature, then this one is the king of it. Clocking at a whopping 12 minutes and 34 seconds (assuming this was on purpose from the producer!), it’s a very slow build up track that could be used at the beginning of a set or at the beginning of the night at a club (or perhaps at the end as a relaxer?). Also not necessarily my style of track, but some of the sound FX used in parts of the track make it a bit more nuanced than the previous minimal “Wishing Well”. Effects and percussion are added over the 12 minutes, making it dynamic every few minutes. Not bad.

That’s it for now, still hoping we will be able to hear these tracks over in The Music Locker in GTA Online, which I’m starting to think we might, especially based on the fact Rockstar want to release the Monday Dreamin’ collection as a whole, and on vinyl!

The next and last EP releases next Friday, 25th June.

Today’s June 11th which means Rockstar’s CircoLoco Records have released the second part of their Monday Dreamin’ EP series!

Featuring tracks from CircoLoco night club set artists such as tINI, Jamie Jones, DJ Tennis and Mano Le Tough, it’s yet another diverse EP that is clearly influenced by different genres. Once again, I do hope we can jam to this at The Music Locker soon, as the songs from the EP’s would be great additions to the GTA Online world.

You can listen to the new EP on streaming platforms such as Beatport, BandCamp and Apple Music. It may still be rolling out to Spotify as I’m writing this article.

  • tINI – What If, Then What? feat. Amiture | First track on the EP and it’s immediately one of my favourites. It includes some very 80’s New Wave/Big Beat-like (you could even say Italo?) beats and a very catchy groove to be sure to make you bop your head. Wouldn’t mind being in a real Music Locker kind of club right now listening to this!
  • DJ Tennis – Atlanta | Classic 90’s House piano riffs? Got it, there they are. A very catchy groove of closed and open hi-hats and a groovy bassline means this is my other favourite in the EP. The breakdown consists of the continuation of the previous piano riff with an added melody, along with a nice vocal humming, and I think it adds to the trancy feeling the track has. Good stuff.
  • Moodymann – Keep on Coming feat. CD | Not my favourite kind of groove, but this was a style that was big in the 90’s as well. Slower grooves with deep subtle vocals and lyrics about love or someone you’re enamoured to, it’s still a great club track in itself for downtime between more up-beat tracks. This is Moodymann’s typical style from what I’ve seen, and it’s no deviation from their normal.
  • Jamie Jones – Laser Lass | Despite it being an underrated and kinda underground genre, I like minimal techno/tech house, so I was attracted to that Beatport preview that starts at the first climax right away with deep, bassy techno-like kicks. Also not one of my personal favourites versus some of the others but it’s sure to make some heads bop with all the music FX, hi and closed hats and groovy basslines. Club material for sure! Music Locker pls?
  • Mano Le Tough – As If To Say | Likely one of the most repetitive tracks in the EP, but this is how this genre is. It’s highly progressive and requires you to listen to the whole seven minutes to enjoy it. It employs a simple non-aggressive kickdrum and a simple few note bassline, great once again to make heads bop. To me, a bit more of a downtime track before a DJ switches to something a bit more uplifting.

That’s it for now, still hoping we will be able to hear these tracks over in The Music Locker in GTA Online, especially now that Rockstar has the rights to their own music label, which, as referred in the previous article, may mean we won’t see these tracks removed from the game’s night clubs ever!
